ids aren't born hating vegetables. We train them that way.
I know, that hurts. We may not do it intentionally, but by starting our babies out on pureed bananas and rice cereal, then only feeding them "kids" food like chicken nuggets, pizza and mac-n-cheese once they are eating solids, we set them on a path away from eating REAL, WHOLE FOOD. That path eventually leads to recurring trips to the pediatrician because of ear infections, strep, allergies, asthma, skin issues, etc.
How do I know? I did that with my kids, and when I later realized how their health was directly tied to what they ate, it was a lot harder to transition them. I was a working mom who traveled a lot, was involved in several community and church activities, and... blah, blah, blah.
The good news is that I got a do-over with my grandkids. Two of them live next door to me, and their parents agreed to let me help them give them a different start in life. The parents both struggled with giving up the sweets, fast-food and junk food, even though they enjoy real, whole food when they have it available. Bad habits were established when they were kids, and they want something different for their kids. They want to make sure their kids eat anything and everything healthy that is presented, and that they choose the good stuff as they get older.

Veggie Kids Seasonal Gardening Adventure Kit is a fun, family-friendly program designed to help parents inspire children ages 3–10 to enjoy vegetables, grow their own food, and build lifelong healthy eating habits. Through a blend of digital lessons, printable activities, and seasonal gardening adventures, families learn how to make veggies exciting and accessible—even in small spaces like patios or kitchen windowsills.
The course begins with a Welcome Kit, introducing kids to colorful veggie mascots such as Carrot Carl and Paula Pepper, a badge tracker poster, and a Quick-Start Planting Guide tailored by growing zone. Parents receive simple, step-by-step instructions and “Parent Corner” resources to guide planting, cooking, and conversations around food. Each season (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) brings fresh projects—like sprouting microgreens, growing carrots, or harvesting peppers—plus fun activities such as compost-in-a-bag experiments and family challenges. Kids earn seasonal badges and, after completing the year, a Veggie Hero Master Gardener Certificate.
The program also includes community support through the Veggie Parent Hub, where families can share progress, swap ideas, and stay motivated. Parents gain tips for feeding picky eaters, homeschool families can integrate lessons into science or nutrition units, and urban/suburban families discover practical ways to grow food at home.
By the end, children not only eat more veggies but also understand where food comes from, why it matters, and how it helps their bodies grow strong. This course turns mealtimes and gardening into a joyful adventure—helping families thrive, one veggie at a time.
